Biography
Dr. Giancarlo Comi is Professor of Neurology, Chairman of the Department of Neurology, and Director of the Institute of Experimental Neurology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan, Italy. He is also President of the European Charcot Foundation (ECF), a member of the Board of Administration of the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and of the Scientific Committee of Associazione Italiana Sclerosi Multipla, Co-Chair of the Scientific Steering Committee of the Progressive MS Alliance, and a fellow of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN). He has served as a past president of the European Neurology Society, the Italian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, and the Italian Society of Neurology.
In recent years, Professor Comi has received the ‘Gh. Marinescu’ honorary award from the Romanian Society of Neurology, and has been awarded honorary memberships of the Russian Neurological Academic Society, the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS), the European Neurological Society (ENS) and the Sociedad Espanola de Neurologia. He also received the Charcot Award for MS Research from the MS International Federation (MSIF) in 2015. Most recently, Professor Comi was awarded the Gold Medal of ‘Benemeranza Civica’ from the City of Milan.
Prof. Comi has authored and co-authored more than 1000 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and edited several books, with an h-index of 100. He has been the invited speaker for more than 450 conferences, both nationally and internationally. He sits on the executive boards of various scientific associations and on the editorial boards of Clinical Investigation, European Journal of Neurology and Multiple Sclerosis. He is also the Associate Editor of the Neurological Sciences.

He was a fellow of the Human Frontiers Science Program at the University of California, San Francisco, and the Global Brain Health Institute at the Trinity College Dublin. He is currently an associate professor and director of the Neuroscience and Brain Enhancement Laboratory at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the Institute of Psychiatry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and he is a researcher at the Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Over the last decade, Dr. Panizzutti gained vast experience studying the effect of digital interventions in the brain, leading clinical trials in different populations.Dr. Zhou Zhidong, graduated as a medical doctor in 1991 and had 5 years of postgraduate clinical training in internal medicine. Subsequently he acquired his Ph.D from Chinese Academy of Science IN 2003 and received his post-doctor training in researches on PD in DBS, NUS from 2003. Later he joined the National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) as a member of the National PD Translational Bench to Bedside team and continue to work on PD in NNI. Currently, he is an Associate Clinician Scientist at NNI and a regular rank Assistant Professor of NBD, Duke-NUS as well as a PI of NMRC grants. As a Clinician Scientist, he focus on translation researches on therapeutic targets in PD and other human neuron degenerative disorders. Furthermore he is also interested in searching and validating of new biomarker in PD and other neuron degenerative diseases. His works will help uncover the molecular pathogenesis of PD and identify new therapeutic targets and biomarkers to improve diagnosis, prognosis and therapy of PD.Dr. Valentina Carfora is a psychologist with European PhD in Psychological and Pedagogical Sciences. She works as a researcher in Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and as a Professor at the University of Maryland University College. Her interests are based on Applied Social Psychology, Health Psychology and Marketing Psychology. In the domain of Health Psychology and Applied Social Psychology, her current research interests focus on psychological models of the determinants of health and environmental behaviours. She also applies randomized controlled studies for promoting health and pro-environmental behaviours. Particularly, she studies the persuasiveness of messaging interventions for promoting healthy eating behaviours, such as adequate consumption of fruit and vegetable or red meat. Specifically, she is investigating cognitive versus affective influences on healthy eating behaviours and the impact of self-monitoring as a change technique to increase healthy eating behaviours. Within the framework of Marketing Psychology, she is investigating psychological models for explaining the consumers? choice of organic and natural products. She is also developing different applications of persuasive communication for increasing the willing to pay a premium for different new products. She is also investigating the consumers? reactions to food scandals, such as the Land of Fires. Generally, her studies are based on the theoretical model proposed by the Theory of Planned Behaviour (Ajzen, 1991) and she is studying in deep the predictive role of additional constructs, such as self-identity and anticipated regret.Dr. Sharda P. Yadav is a Research Scientist at NINDS, NIH. He obtained his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi India in 2007. Dr. Yadav joined University of Michigan Ann Arbor for a short period then moved to NIH in 2008 as post-doctoral fellow in National Eye Institute. There he was involved in isolation of the transcriptional complexes bound to visual pigment rhodopsin gene promoter. He has isolated a protein complex containing NonO bound to enhancer region of rhodopsin gene. He developed a mouse model for the centrosome gene CP110 and showed for the first time that CP110 act as a positive regulator of ciliogenesis. Dr. Yadav joined NINDS in 2016 and his current research interests are to understand the role of a peptide TP5 derived from CDK5 activator p35 that has been shown to inhibits the hyperactive CDK5 and reduce the pathological conditions in mice models of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).Dr. Thomas Chatzintounas was born in Serres - Greece and graduated from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) & Hellenic Corps Officers Military Academy in 1987. He is Senior Consultant Neurologist since 1994 after receiving education at the AHEPA Hospital, B’ Department of Neurology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He became a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD focused in Neurology in the Department of Medicine of the Democritus University of Thrace on July 10, 2007, on the statement: ¨Ultrasound characteristics of carotid artery disease in ishaemic stroke¨, National Archive of PhD Theses - DOI 10.12681/eadd/21129. He has been a director for years in Neurologic clinic of 492 General Military Hospital & 424 General Military Training Hospital, teaching also Neurology for postgraduate students. Now he is a postdoctoral fellow in A’ Department of Neurology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, AHEPA Hospital focused in Clinical Research and also Neurologist at Private Practice (Interbalcan European Medical Center Thessaloniki & Xanthi, Greece).Dr. Giuseppe Lanza was born in Catania (Italy) in 1982. He currently works as Senior Academic Researcher at the University of Catania (Italy). After graduation with honours in Medicine, he trained at the School of Neurology and got the international PhD at the same University. He specialized in Cerebrovascular Diseases and Neurosonology at the Stroke Unit in La Spezia Hospital (Italy). As visiting Clinical Research Fellow, he further trained in Clinical Neurophysiology at the “Royal Victoria Infirmary” Hospital and the Department of Neuroscience, Newcastle University (UK). In 2013 he was selected for a Scientific Fellowship promoted by the European Federation of Neurological Societies. From May 2013 to October 2018 he worked as Consultant Neurologist at the Oasi Research Institute – IRCCS in Troina (Italy), which is a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization (WHO) for research and training in Neurosciences. From 2015 to October 2018, he taught Neurology at the Kore University of Enna (Italy). He has co-authored more than 90 publications in international refereed Journals and Conferences/Meetings, and he also serves as Editor and invited Reviewer of several international Journals. More recently, he has obtained the Master of Science (Level I) in “Clinical Research” and the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor (procedure for the Italian University Professor position recruiting, based on scientific qualification criteria). Finally, he is recipient of the Publons “Sentinel of Science” award (year 2016) and the Publons “Peer Review Award” (years 2017 and 2018).Dr. Almeida-Pereira is a faculty member of the Department of Physiology of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto of University of São Paulo, Brazil. She undertook her MSc and PhD in the Department of Physiology in the same university. Dr. Almeida-Pereira is degree in Veterinary Medicine from Federal University Rural of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Currently, she is postdoctoral research visiting in School of Medicine of Saint Louis University, MO, USA. Throughout her scientific career she has contributed to the role of the central nervous system (CNS) in control the hydromineral balance, with special emphasis on the role of estradiol on the neural pathways involved in this homeostatic regulation.Professor Dr. Viroj Wiwanitkit is currently working as a medical professor and Asian Scholar. He graduated in medical doctor (M.D). (honors) and works in medical academics in many universities. At present he is appointed as a visiting University Professor, Hainan Medical University, China ; visiting professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Nis, Serbia ; adjunct professor, Joseph Ayobabalola University, Nigeria and Professor, Senior Expert, Surin Rajabhat University, Thailand. He has many international publications in medical field. At present, he is the medical scientist who has more than 1,800 article publications and he has the most number (the first world rank) of international publications as the first and the last author. He also serve as editor in chief and editorial board of about 100 international medical journals published from several countries around the world.Dr. Sylvain Gigout is an experienced neuroscientist with particular expertise in in vitro electrophysiology, surgery and behavioural experiments. His doctoral degree was on the topic of neuronal synchronisation in epilepsy with emphasize on the role of gap junctions. Then he joined the Institute of Cell Biology and Neurobiology at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin (Germany) where he learned patch clamp and intracellular recordings. He deciphered the role of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in rat and human epileptogenic cortex. More recently Dr Gigout joined the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds in Professor Gamper team to investigate the mechanisms involved in the development of neuropathic pain. He currently works in Dr Kwok team to develop therapy following spinal cord injury.Dr. Hafedh Abdelmelek earned the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, the degree of PhD in Neurophysiology and the master degree in economy and innovation from Claude Bernard University Lyon I (France).Dr. Omar is a US Board-Certified Neurologist and Neurological Oncologist. He also has subspecialized training in Endovascular Neurosurgery from the University of Oxford. He has a unique set of skills that spans across the various disciplines of Neurosciences. He received training in Endovascular Neurosurgery (University of Oxford) under direction of world-renowned pioneers in the field including Professor James Byrne, Neurological Oncology (University of Toronto), Neurology (University of Missouri - Columbia), Epilepsy / Epilepsy surgery evaluations, EEG, intraoperative monitoring, subdural grids and depth electrode interpretation (Cleveland Clinic Foundation) and Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience (PhD, University of Ottawa) under the direction of Professor Bin Hu. Dr. Omar currently serves as the Medical Director and Chair of the Neurology Inpatient Program at Wellington Regional Medical Center where he is also involved with medical student and resident teaching. He has previously held professorship positions at prestigious institutions such as the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine and also was Division Chief of Neurological Oncology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he built the first NeuroOncology Program as well as the first Center of Excellence for the novel Optune technology used for treating brain cancer in central and southern Illinois. Dr. Omar now serves as an Editor or Editorial Board member on many international peer-reviewed Neurology and Neurosurgery journals. He is a member of the Society for NeuroOncology (SNO), American Medical Association, American Physiological Society (Inactive), The Society for Neuroscience (Inactive) and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). He is also the recipient of numerous awards including the "Medical Innovator - 2013 Award" from the Sangamon County Medical society for his discovery of a novel molecularly targeted approach for the treatment of spinal cord hemangioblastomas, Excellence Scholarship in Science and Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Prize for Outstanding Achievements from the Ottawa Hospital Foundation and a highly coveted Canadian Institutes of Health Research National Fellowship Award for investigating the role of endogenous neural stem cells in brain repair following ischemic and traumatic brain injury. For his work, he was inducted as a featured listee of the Marquis Who’s Who in the World for 2018.Dr. Maysar Sarieddine is an architect, a businessman, a philosopher, and a psychologist. He completed his doctorate in Depth Psychology with an emphasis on Community, Liberation, and Eco psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, California. His dissertation topic was an attempt to understand the dynamics of violence in Lebanon and the Middle East, specifically domestic violence against women, and to provide possible solutions that could be integrated in a more holistic way in society.Dr. Maria Vázquez Guimaraens, from Spain has received a Bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery in 2008 (Universidad De Santiago de Compostela). She did her Specialist Training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation via MIR, Hospital Juan Canalejo, La Coruña (2009-2013) and a Postgraduate degree in Childhood Disability in 2012 (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) followed by PhD in Neurosciences (Universidad de A Coruña). She has the titles of “Neurodevelopment & Behavioural Pediatric Consultant” and “General Pediatric Consultant King Abdullah specialized Children hospital-Ministry of National Guard /Health Affaires - Riyadh /Saudi Arabia”.Dr. Jaime Fornaguera Born in Colombia in 1962, he received a BSc. in Biological studies from University of Costa Rica (UCR) in 1984, MSc. degree in Physiology from the same University in 1989 and a PhD from Heinrich Heine University, in Düsseldorf, Germany in the Department of Physiological Psychology, in 1995. Between 1987 until now he teach about Neurosciences, Neuroeducation and Biochemistry topics for graduate and posgraduate students at the UCR.
In 1998 he received postdoctoral DAAD Fellowship at Heinrich Heine Universität, Physiological Psychology Department, Germany and in 2005 also from DAAD postdoctoral Fellowship, to work in the Institute for Brain Research, Jülich, Germany. Founder of the Research Program in Neurosciences at the UCR. 2013 until 2020 nominated as Director of the Neuroscience Research Center in the UCR. In 2013 he received the most prestigious UCR Prize for scientists, "Researcher of the year of health sciences".
Dr. Ahmet Ulugol is a Professor of Pharmacology at the School of Medicine of Trakya University in Edirne, Turkey. He has more than 30 years of experience in basic pharmacology studies. He has retained an honorary consultant clinical scientist and senior lecturer position within the Neurometabolic Unit and Institute of Neurology, respectively and he still actively involved in the mitochondrial diagnostic service.Dr. Dorota Ortenburger, PhD is adjunct at the Institute Physical Education, Tourism and Physiotherapy Jan Dlugosz University. She is a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain and the SIG on Pain, Mind, and Movement - the multidisciplinary forum of communication in order to improve the standard of care provided to patients in order to improve physical and psychological functioning and increase participation in daily life.
Her research interests concern biopsychosocial model in sport science and in rehabilitation, as dynamic interaction between biological, psychological and social factors, all of which play a significant role in human functioning in sport and in rehabilitation.

Dr. Zakaria attended the English School of Cairo till graduation in 1974. He was a student of the Medical School of Ain Shams University till 1980 where he graduated with honors. Dr. Zakaria completed his residency at the Neuropsychiatric Department of Ain Shams University till 1984. He obtained his Master’s Degree in Neuropsychiatry. He became Assistant Lecturer in 1989 and then after obtaining his MD degree in Neurology in 1989. Dr. Zakaria became Assistant Professor of Neurology in 1994 and Professor of Neurology since 1999 until now. He was Head of the Neurology Department at the Ain Shams Specialized University Hospital in 1990 and Head of the Stroke Unit in 1991. Since 2014, Dr. Zakaria has become the Head of the Multiple Sclerosis Unit at the Ain Shams Specialized University Hospital. Dr. Zakaria is currently the President of the Egyptian Society of Multiple Sclerosis and a member of the editorial board of the journal MSARD (Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders). He is also a member of the MENACTRIMS assembly board and Egypt’s Brain Health Champion (MS Brain Health OrganizationDr. Nicholas Laidler, Resident Medical Officer from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. He works in both public and private hospitals, and had a range of general and speciality medical experience.Dr. Daya Shankar Gupta is a neuroscientist whose main interest is to understand the representation of physical time-dimension in the brain. Time-dimension is represented in oscillatory phenomena within the patterns of spikes. Time-dimension is an integral part of our physical universe, whose representation in the brain plays a key role in its interaction with external physical universe. Dr. Gupta’s specific interests include the study of the role of physical time-dimension in action, perception, temporal binding of perception with action, as well as the information processing underlying cognitive functions. Dr. Gupta is currently hosting several Research Topics in this key area of neuroscience at Frontiers Journals. Dr. Gupta has also reviewed as well as edited several research papers in different areas of neuroscience and psychology.
Dr. Gupta received his doctoral degree in Biochemistry from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. His doctoral as well as postdoctoral research have mainly included the study of the histochemical basis of neuropathic pain, with a focus on opioids. Before getting his PhD degree, Dr. Gupta was trained as a physician in India.
Dr. Gupta’s main contribution in the study of time-dimension was published in Frontiers in Psychology (Gupta, 2014). In this paper, Dr. Gupta proposed that intrinsic neural oscillators, which construct distributed neural clock mechanisms across the brain, are calibrated by the tasks involving interaction with the physical world. Has several publications, presented research results in different international conferences as oral and poster presentations.Dr. Ravi Paul, working as a Lecturer and Head, Department of Psychiatry at the University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia. He was instrumental in starting the MMed. (Master of Medicine) in Psychiatry programme. He was instrumental in starting several specialized clinics including Drug and Alcohol, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry and Psychosocial Counseling and Psychotherapy. He also pioneered the Master of Science (MSc.) in Clinical Neuropsychology Programme. It was for the first time they trained Clinical Psychologists in the country. Dr. Gabriel Oluseyi Akinyemi, versatile and professional sociology graduate with wide range of experience in a variety of law related areas including youth offending, counseling of inmates in the prisons, restorative justice, prison research, substance abuse and public relations. He have a post graduate qualification in criminology with forensic psychology at Middlesex University Hendon London. He executed a project with the EU Seventh Framework program (FP7). He worked as a research assistant from March 2014 to July 2014 in Greater London and beyond. The project Reducing Early School Leaving in Europe (RESL.eu) provided research insights into the mechanisms and processes that influence young people’s decision to leave school early, before gaining adequate qualifications for today’s demanding labor market. The project also focused on the vulnerable group of young people that are not in education, employment or training (NEET). The research consists of mixed-method design, while working at a local level. His research Fieldwork include over 1,100 focus groups and interviews and an international survey, coordinated by Middlesex University’s team, with over 28,000 participants, which generated in-depth data and allowed systematic comparisons and quantitative generalizations.
He also worked with a Public Relations firm as a Public Relations Assistant and my job description entails - Drafting Press release and other Public Relations materials, he also coordinate press meetings and other events that we host. He use social media channels to build our client and database and also let the virtual community know what we do, what we offer and what they stand to gain when they partner with us.
He offer psychological intervention programs to inmates in the prisons across the south western states of Nigeria. He also monitor their skill acquisition programs and offer recommendations to the prison authorities from time to time. Lastly, on a weekly basis he counsel the inmates especially those who are awaiting trial, he also involve in restorative justice and rehabilitation of the inmates and prepare them for life after the prisons.

Dr. Maria Teresa Mandara is Diagnostic at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Perugia, Italy. In her research activity she has been focusing her studies on neurooncology, with a specific interest on differential diagnosis and immunophenotyping of Nervous System tumours in domestic animals. Her studies have given a contribution in investigating the biological behaviour and molecular markers of canine meningioma as potential diagnosis, prognosis and predictive biomarkers of the tumour. Based on the advanced knowledge provided by her studies, additional biological similarities between human and canine meningioma are proved, supporting the dog as a reliable animal model for in vitro and in vivo studies for the human counterpart. Under the leadership of the professor, doctor of medical science, Mosiichuk N.M., there has been developed original, minimally invasive method of endonasal plastic reconstruction of cerebrospinal-fluid fistula (2004), which is introduced at present not only in many regions of Ukraine (Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia), but also abroad (Russia, Uzbekistan). She has a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology and do PhD studies in psychological research, is a research professor in the Faculty of Behavioral Sciences of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, Mexico for 26 years. She is leader of research group “ Clinical and Family” and leader of the National Network of Studies on Violence and Health.
