Dr. Malek Adouni is currently is a postdoctoral research associate at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Northwestern University. He earned his MS and PhD degrees from Polytechnique Montreal and his BS from School of Sciences and Technology of Tunis. For almost ten years, Malek investigated the synergy between passive structures and active musculature of the knee joint during a functional task or responding to an external loading using a multiscale paradigm starting from collagen fibril to full knee joint continuum mechanics. He actively participated in several projects addressing knee joint biomechanics in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Florida University, California University-San Diego and Wisconsin University. His research interests extends to the intersection of multiscale modeling, orthopedics, and physical medicine and rehabilitation, and are motivated by a desire to apply engineering principles to help those with joint disorders. These interests involve joint disorders control and management with an accurate measurement/prediction of the mechanical loading and function of the joint. His research also involves joint surgical design (ACL-reconstruction and knee osteotomy) and optimization to improve the short and long term outcomes of the post-operative human locomotion. Discoveries in these areas of engineering are essential to enhance the care, mobility and quality of life of individuals living with disabilities. Dr. Malek published more than 45 papers in international journals and conferences. He has served as a reviewer for scientific journals in the field of biomechanics such as journal of biomechanics, journal of biomechanics engineering, computer methods in biomechanics and biomedical engineering, Annals of biomedical engineering and Int. j. of experimental and computational biomechanics. He taught a wide range of graduate and undergraduate mathematical and engineering courses such as algebra, numerical methods, flight mechanics, statics, vibrations, solid mechanics and finite elements.

Dr. Felipe Delgado was born in Popayan, Colombia; studied medicine in the Universidad del Cauca (1984) under his father’s (Dr. José María Delgado) supervision; who was a master in human anatomy. His passion for human anatomy and biomechanics was born from his father’s influence. Furthermore, he studied orthopedic surgery in Santa Creu I Sant Pau Hospital in Barcelona, Spain (1989). He formed a specialization in arthroscopic surgery. He turned back to Colombia, and worked as an orthopedic surgeon and later on, became a professor in the Universidad del Cauca. His academic work is focused in lower limb surgery (Preservation, replacement and arthroscopy procedures). His works of investigation based on anatomy and tissue sparring, brought him to develop a new concept for total hip replacement, called the MAASH Technique. This original paper was published on the Special Surgery Hospital Journal. Recently 30º ALL INSIDE technique to hip arthroscopy was published (FAI app). This capsular hip work philosophy (Hip capsule “screw-home” mechanism preservation), offers a very high stability which lasts for years and doesn’t permit leg length discrepancy; and the endurance of the prosthetics implant is higher. These procedures are focused on the patients’ contentment and it has a beneficial economic impact on health programs.
